Holidays the Music City Way

It’s never too early to be thinking about cool temps and the holidays that come along with them. Holiday season in Music City is full of hot chocolate with extra marshmallows, twinkling lights and songs played by the cozy fireside.

It’s the perfect destination for the holidays, whether you’re visiting family or just vacationing in this city of dreamers. It might be cold, but we have a list of fun things for you to do that will warm you up and get you out on the town to have that Nashville adventure you’ve been waiting for.
Warm up with the spice of the south: Nothing is more satisfying on a winter’s day than some Nashville Hot Chicken! There are a few different places you could try and each of them have their own way of making this delicious dish unique – you can find Hattie B’s on several Nashville corners but Pepperfire, Bolton’s & Princes are amongst the originals and offer some of the best Hot Chicken in town! It may be cold outside, but that doesn’t mean that you have to be.

‘Give Thanks’ your own way: One thing we really love about Music City is all of the amazing opportunities there are to give back. Wouldn’t it be fun this Thanksgiving to use your holiday time with the family by making the world a better place? You can use the United Way website as a guide and choose activities going on whichever week you end up in Nashville. The volunteer events can be anything ranging from packaging food for our local homeless shelters, volunteering your time as a book buddy, to spending time with the elderly. We know every family holds different traditions for Thanksgiving, but this awesome way to celebrate can be fun for all – not to mention it helps our community at the same time!

Turkey Trot Time!: How would you like to spend your Thanksgiving as a part of the worlds largest Thanksgiving running festival? This annual 8K / 8 Mile marathon is happening on Thanksgiving Day in Nashville and no other running event gives you an ooey gooey cinnamon roll at the finish line! You can run, you can walk, you can even skip the entire thing, whichever way you choose you’re still supporting the ALS association! So get that pre-turkey workout in, spend some time with the family …. and did we mention the cinnamon rolls?

You can’t go wrong with the Gaylord Opryland Christmas Lights: They have 3 million Christmas lights strewn up around the hotel property each and every year. The lights start outside, run up tall trees and across fancy terraces and you can follow them into the winding halls covering practically every inch of the stunning resort. They are home to some of the largest Christmas trees in the country and you can walk the premises and gawk at their beauty for free.
Celebrate with the Nashville Symphony!

Each year the Nashville Symphony features many of your Holiday favorites as well as broadway dancers. In past years, shows have included the big man himself (many know him as Santa Claus) and even Home Alone. Check the Symphony website for shows during the upcoming holiday season.

The Nutcracker at the Nashville Ballet! We are sure you’re gonna love getting into the holiday spirit with this Christmas Classic. This two hour performance is fun for the whole family, including an intermission and some of the most beloved pieces of music like, “Waltz of the Snowflakes”, “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”, and “March of the Toy Soldiers”. It’s the perfect way to bring a little culture into your Nashville Christmas experience. Not to mention, the kiddos are going to be captivated the whole time!
Vince Gill & Amy Grant at The Ryman: Vince Gill & Amy Grant give everyone relationship goals with their Country love story. This Grammy winning dynamic duo bring their 2 hour program to The Ryman Auditorium for the holidays each year and they want to share their love and music with you! Pick a night, sit back in the legendary space and relax to the sound of Christmas & perfect harmonies.

New Year, Same Note: In Music City, we don’t watch the ball drop like the rest of the country. Each and every year, thousands of people gather to witness the legendary music note falling as the new year begins. Each year claims to be a party like no year before- ending with fireworks, food and signature drinks. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Nashville New Year celebration without some live music. You can usually expect big name headliners like Keith Urban and Maren Morris. For the upcoming lineup, check out the Visit Music City website. So plan ahead to grab your boots, add some NYE sparkle and head to Nashville for unforgettable fun!
