Being both avid travellers and dog owners has often presented quite the challenge: what to do with the dog? We know first hand that dogs are part of the family and it is so challenging to leave family behind when you want or need to get away.
Our first dog, Theoh was unfortunately not great with other dogs even though he absolutely loved people and going places. Dog-friendly rentals were SO hard to find back in the day and since we couldn’t board him, we had to hire a dog sitter to stay home with him. When we got June in 2018, it was a little easier but she suffered from severe separation anxiety so it always broke our hearts to leave her behind.
For this reason, we made the decision early on to welcome dogs in ALL of our Southbound Stays homes. Both Theoh and June are now running together in Dog Heaven but we will continue to do this in their honor!
When you bring the dog(s) with you on your stay, they’ll be treated just like any other guest and receive:
- Welcome treats and a gift
- Their very own “fur-got” it basket with some commonly forgotten items that they can use on their stay like potty bags, dog bowls, towels- even dog tags with the home addresses in case they decide to go exploring on their own
- A curated list of dog-friendly parks, restaurants, coffee shops and & more (this was carefully put together by June before she passed)
There is a nominal fee associated with bringing the dog(s) which helps us cover the added cost of cleaning and upkeep related to their visit. We feel you’ll find this fee to be fair and significantly less than the cost of boarding or a dog-sitter.
