Visit East Nashville Neighborhood

Vinyl and lattes and art, oh my! East Nashville’s reputation as a “hipster haven” is well-deserved. In this thriving pocket of Nashville, just 10-15 minutes by car from Downtown Nashville, you can start the day with an artful espresso and end it with a carefully crafted cocktail, with all varieties of locally sourced cuisine in-between. More than just a trendy spot, it’s family-oriented, too, with kid-friendly activities and restaurants in a historic, residential setting.

East Nashville is located just East of Downtown Nashville/ Broadway directly across the Cumberland River. Nissan Stadium marks the beginning of the neighborhood and it extends to Briley Parkway creating Greater East Nashville.

East Nashville is so expansive that there are several smaller districts/ areas within the neighborhood. Those are: 5-points, Historic Edgefield, East End, Eastwood Neighbors, East Hill, Lockeland Springs, Rolling Acres, Inglewood, Greenwood Neighbors, Cleveland Park, and McFerrin Park.

Cross the Cumberland River to get Downtown by foot via John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge or by car – depending on where in the neighborhood you are, you can be there in typically less than 10-15 minutes. Multiple highways, including I24 and I65 and parkways intersect to create easy access within East Nashville as well as help connect you to other parts of the city.

Best Known For:

Eclectic, artsy & ‘local everything’ vibe: East Nashville is an eclectic part of town where the artistic types (or as some may say, the hipsters) tend to congregate. More so than other areas in town, you will see that old meets new and there has been a much more concerted effort to preserve the old. In fact, many streets boast homes that date back to the early 1900s. The neighborhood has not escaped Nashville’s growth, though and you will also find a great deal of new development on the outskirts of the neighborhood.

The locals on this side of town love supporting local everything. The neighborhood is full of dive bars, shops, coffee shops, music, restaurants and even a grocery store that is all locally owned. Though there are a few chains (like Kroger, Aldi and now even Starbucks) they’re few and far between. Overall, the neighborhood is known for being family friendly and dog friendly – many places of high chairs and most patios are dog-friendly!

Food & Drink: Some of the best restaurants in town call East Nashville home! Start your day at any number of coffee shops throughout the neighborhood (some of our top picks include Barista Parlor, Portland Brew East and Bongo Java East). There’s even Living Water Brewery, a coffee shop by morning and craft beer brewery by day and night.

Dining options run the gamut in East Nashville…If you’re looking for something delicious yet cheap, grab $3 tacos at Mas Tacos or a $4-$5 pizza slice at Five Points. A little less cheap (ie casual) places include favorites like Boston Commons (get the clam chowder, y’all) and Hunter’s Station Food Hall where you can get a burger, tacos, grilled cheese or Vietnamese all in one place.

If ambiance is what you’re after, treat yourself to a French meal at Once Upon a Time in France (steak frites is our choice) or Lockeland Table, self described as a community kitchen and bar. These are both small, neighborhood restaurants that make you feel at home, provide an excellent culinary experience and where you would feel comfortable in jeans or fully dressed up.

The adult beverage choices on this side of town top pretty much any other part of the city in our humble opinion. There are multiple breweries, a winery, several cocktail lounges and dive bars to choose from.

Shopping: The eclectic vibe is definitely reflected in the shops in East Nashville. Shopping experiences include vintage clothing and home finds, record shops, gift shops, casual boutiques and high end boutiques – and anything you can imagine in between. There are great strolling areas, like the Shoppes on Fatherland, Five Points or Shops at Porter East.
