Nashville usually lives up to the hype it’s been given. May is quite possibly the best month to visit this glorious little city and we’re about to let you in on why! Our winters are pretty cold and our summers are hot enough to fry an egg on a sidewalk… but Spring… Spring is our season of choice here in Music City. May your trip to Nashville be a memorable one. Start your trip off with a hit out of the park, more specifically The First Tennessee Park. Our local AAA baseball team, The Sounds, have games on 6 consecutive nights, May 1st-6th against the Memphis Redbirds. We’re told that a few of these games will be celebrating the traditional holiday, ‘Dia de los Muertos’ or ‘Day of the Dead’. On May 3rd-5th the Sounds will take on a new name – The Vihuelas – which is a mexican guitar, typically a higher pitched instrument than those classical guitars you might hear on Broadway. So come on down, order a local draft and enjoy the game and a little culture!
If you are in town May 10th, be sure to find some time for The Ryman Auditorium, where Lightning 100 is presenting a local legendary duo. Abner Ramirez and Amanda Sudano (Daughter of soul singer Donna Summer) met in Nashville and started making music together. Now they are married with 2 children and still find time to come back and put on one of the best shows you’ll ever see as the duo, JohnnySwim. They mix singer-songwriter vibes with r&b and roots and never disappoint with their mesmerizing harmonies. Occasionally they have been witnessed unplugging and walking out into the audience to play, so be ready with your camera for a once in a lifetime angle of the artists. Believe us when we say, you get your tickets worth with these incredible performers.
On May 11th Nashville coyly shifts into a hat-filled Kentucky Derby-esque place, where spectators cheer on their favorite horses in a race that benefits the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. 25,000 of the best dressed locals and travelers alike make their way to Percy Warner Park where the event is being held starting at 8:30AM. Tickets are on sale now for The 78th Annual Iroquois Steeplechase starting at $75 for experiences ranging from tailgate spaces, private tents to luxe private skyboxes! So, grab your biggest hat and a ticket – you won’t want to miss this!
You don’t have to be born in the 70’s to love the Brat Pack, this we know is true. That being said, Rob Lowe is making an appearance in Nashville on May 18th at Andrew Jackson Hall and you might not want to miss it. The 80’s Heartthrob/ Family Man is taking the stage to talk all about what fame, fatherhood and Hollywood has done for him and his family. His Book is called “Stories I Only Tell My Friends”, and people who have seen this live performance say Lowe is “As personable and charismatic of a presence onstage as he is onscreen.” If you are quick to the ticket box office you may be able to grab a VIP package where you get a meet n’ greet and a professional photo with Rob (swoon!).
In town for Memorial Day Weekend? Your options for adventure are endless, here are a couple fun things to fill your family friendly weekend. The Memorial Day Dash 5k at The Science Center, The Time Jumpers (featuring Vince Gill) are playing 3rd & Lindsley, The Nashville Sounds play The Round Rock Express, The Stolen Faces (sounds scary, but they’re amazing) are playing Acme Feed & Seed, Eric Church is going to melt some ears at Nissan Stadium and of course, Motown Monday will be amping it up on Memorial Day at The 5 Spot. So whether you’re into swing dancing, or you’d rather listen from your seat with a drink, Memorial Day weekend is made for everyone here in Nashville.
If you’re looking for something a little more adventurous and stranger than the Nashville norm, you will want to check out ‘Brew at The Zoo’. The Nashville Zoo will welcome any and all species of beer lovers to the 8th annual Brew at the Zoo happening on May 31st from 6:30 – 10:30pm. This isn’t your usual take the kids to the zoo day, even though there will be animals present. In addition to lions, tigers & bears (oh my!) – there will also be live music, local food trucks and over 100 craft beers on tap at this unique after-hours event. So whether you want a nice hefeweizen, a guiness or a refreshing IPA – it’s all ready for you as you walk in the gates. Grab a beer and take a gander at the beautiful wildlife, what more could you ask for?
